3rd Annual Jr World Series of Barbecue Contest

The American Royal Barbecue Contest is proud the host the 3rd Annual Jr World Series of Barbecue.  The contest, for youth ages 6-10 & 11-15, will take place on Saturday, October 3 of Barbecue weekend.





SCHEDULE OF EVENTS -- Saturday, October 3rd, 2009:


2:00 -- Cooks meeting
2:15 -- Start grills
2:30 -- Start cooking
3:30 -- Turn-in for ages 6-10
4:00 – Turn-in for ages 11-15
4:30 -- Judging to be completed
5:00 -- Awards will be during the Invitational Award Ceremony.





Rules and Regulations

  1. There will be two age groups (Each entry will consist of only 1 cook) KCBS Rules apply, unless otherwise noted: 
    **Age 6-10 – TBD 
    **Age 11-15 – TBD
  2. Preparation, Cooking and Presentation:
    **The child must do the preparation, cooking and presentation. The supervisor may help with fires and slicing or anything considered dangerous. If a child is unable to do all of the above on his own, he is too young to cook. 
    **Handicapped children need not be eliminated from competition, but will be allowed to do as much as they are able with some help from an assigned person.
  3. All children will cook in a designated area on grills provided by the American Royal.
  4. Each entry will be allowed to keep the grill they cook on.
  5. A parent/guardian must be present with the child during the entire cooking process and only one assistant per child will be allowed into the cooking area. 
  6. Entries will be submitted in numbered contatiners provided by the American Royal 
    Slicing meat for presentation is not required. Judges will be equipped to slice the presentation at the judging table 
  7. Judging will be based on appearance, tenderness/texture and taste 
  8. Judging ranges are from nine being the highest to one being the lowest 
  9. All entries must be associated with a team that is competitng in the open competition.

Special Instructions: 

  1. Check in will be done at the cooks meeting, 2:00pm on Saturday, October 3rd, in front of Kemper Arena. 
  2. Meat submitted for competition must be meat provided by the American Royal. 
  3. Only one adult assistant and one Jr. Cook will be allowed in the cooking area. 
  4. Adults – No alcohol in preparation and cooking areas. 
  5. Bring own utensils, seasonings and marinates.

DEADLINE: All registration forms, with appropriate entry fee, must be delivered to the following address on or before August 14th, 2009. (Check, Money Order, Visa or MasterCard) Each category will allow 25 entries on a first come, first serve basis. All entries must be associated with a team that is competitng in the open competition.
