RECORD SETTING NUMBER OF EVENTS FILL KEMPER ARENA AND AMERICAN ROYAL CENTER IN JANUARY 2005
AMERICAN ROYAL COMPLEX HOSTS 30 EVENTS INCLUDING HARLEM GLOBETROTTRS, MONSTER JAM, SMUCKER’S STARS ON ICE, OUTLAWS, UMKC, KNIGHTS, AND COMETS

Global Spectrum, the facility management company that manages the American Royal Complex, will host 30 events at Kemper Arena and the American Royal Center in the month of January.  The diverse family entertainment, live sports, and trade shows broke the record for most events scheduled during January in the thirty-one year history of Kemper Arena.  Despite losing three events due to inclement weather, Global Spectrum still broke the record for events (29) set in 2001.

“Global Spectrum will continue to add activity throughout the year to bring new family shows, concerts, and sporting events to Kansas City,” said Global Spectrum’s Larry Hovick, General Manager of Kemper Arena and the American Royal Center.

The professional sports teams have been heating up the Complex all month long.  The Kansas City Outlaws of the United Hockey League will play eight games at Kemper Arena in January.  The Outlaws recently honored the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and S.A.F.E. during a special matinee hockey game on Martin Luther King Day.  The Kansas City Comets soccer team hosts three games in January and continues to strive for the Major Indoor Soccer League playoffs.  The team will play nine games this month.  University of Kansas graduates Jeff Boschee and Jeff Graves have helped lead the Kansas City Knights to a winning record in the American Basketball Association.  The team will battle five opponents in Hale Arena this month.

Kemper Arena and the American Royal Center has also been the home to many family entertainment shows during January.  The Harlem Globetrotters dribbled into Kemper Arena for a rare two-night appearance on January 6 and 7 where over 13,000 were able to witness the Globetrotter’s ‘World of Fun’ tour.  The ice was melted and dirt was brought in as Monster Jam trucks roared into Kansas City for three shows January 21-23.

Reigning Olympic Figure Skating Champion Sarah Hughes will skate at Kemper Arena Saturday, January 29 for Smucker’s Stars on Ice tour.  Hughes will be joined by a cast that includes: 2002 Canadian Olympic Pair Champions Jamie Salé & David Pelletier, World Champion Todd Eldredge, and Special Guest Star Kurt Browning.  Additional events at the American Royal Complex include two UMKC men’s basketball games, two days of the Great American Train Show, and Cycles ‘N More January 28-30.

Tickets to events at Kemper Arena and Hale Arena are available at the Kemper Arena Box Office, online at www.ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations, or calling 816-931-3330.  Group tickets are available at 816-513-4031.
