The American Royal Chairman’s Club is a group of emerging, Kansas City based professionals with high potential for success in their chosen field. These individuals exhibit their passion for community involvement and interaction by serving as ambassadors and leaders for the American Royal, and promoting our mission.
The program was created with the intent that members will invest in the future of Kansas City, support the American Royal’s mission to impact the future of agriculture, and to develop future generations of leaders. Currently, the Chairman’s Club has 31 members and meets almost monthly with the leaders of area companies to learn more about their own career paths and leadership styles.
The group hosts two Governor recruiting events each Spring/Summer called Royal on the Rooftop, in partnership with local businesses. In 2016, nearly 60 Governors were enrolled at these events, many of them new to the American Royal. These events also helped to introduce the Royal to a new group of people without traditional ties to agriculture.
Chairman’s Club members come from a broad section of business, civic, and social circles and act as ambassadors for the American Royal in their respective industries. Members are typically under the age of 40, and have some familiarity with the American Royal’s mission and purpose to provide opportunities for agricultural competitive learning, educational experiences, and scholarships that inspire and cultivate dreams. Members must be or become Governors during their tenure in the club and volunteer during the season. Membership is limited to 40 members at any given time.
New prospective members will be considered and offered the opportunity for membership annually. The application window begins in November and closes in December. Exceptions can be made to this process on a case by case basis, as quality membership is the goal, however, no exceptions will be made during the American Royal season.
Interested candidates can apply by submitting a resume and letter of intent to a current member or co-chairman. Prospective members will be taken to coffee or lunch individually to discuss the time commitment and answer any questions. Chairman’s Club leadership team, the American Royal Advisor, the American Royal Representative, and President and CEO will review prospective member submissions. Prospective members will be notified upon acceptance or when membership is denied.
New members are required to attend American Royal 101 early in the calendar year for on-boarding and to learn about the Royal and the Chairman’s Club.
