This year the American Royal will hold its third Wine Competition, Tasting, and Auction. This special event marks the 113th anniversary of the American Royal. Through individual ticket sales, sponsorships, and an auction, the event will generate much needed funds for recipients of American Royal scholarships.
Hundreds of wine and food enthusiasts will gather at the American Royal Complex to participate in the tasting of the competition wines complimented by an array of delectable dishes from area restaurants. During this event, a silent and live auction will be held. The highlight of the silent auction will be the offering of unique wines for bid. During the live auction, guests will have the opportunity to bid on specially created Chef’s Tables, donated by participating restaurants, which will be paired with the championship competition wines.
Wine Competition:
The event will be an 8 category competition with wines from around the world, including some with Kansas City connections, vying to be crowned the American Royal Grand Champion red or white wine. The categories include; sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, white blend, merlot, zinfandel, pinot noir, red blend, and cabernet sauvignon. Our competition wines will be judged by local sommeliers at a private tasting during the month of August. The champions will be announced at the Wine Auction on October 11th.
Restaurant Competition:
Kansas City was recently recognized as a top 10 ‘most surprising food’ city. As the home of 3 James Beard Award-winning chefs, we are not just a barbecue city anymore. At this event, invited restaurants will pair mouth-watering bites to be enjoyed with the tasting wines. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a chef’s table for 8 from their favorite restaurants. The restaurant that generates the most revenue from the auction will be crowned the American Royal Champion Restaurant. Participating restaurants include; The American Restaurant, Room 39 at Mission Farms, Loch Lloyd Country Club, The National Golf Club of Kansas City, EBT, JJ’s, The Tavern in the Village, and Tasso’s.
