The Livestock Show began as The National Hereford Show, 112 years ago in a tent in the Kansas City Stockyards. Since 1899, the American Royal Livestock Show has grown to become one of the largest livestock shows in the nation! Drawing an audience of owners, breeders, future business and agriculture leaders, and animal enthusiasts from across the country. Currently we host 4 junior market shows, 12 open breeding cattle shows, 8 junior heifer shows, a junior pedigreed gilt show, and 2 open boer goat shows.
In 2011, nearly 1,600 exhibitors from 34 states made the trip to Kansas City for the Royal. Throughout the two week show, more than 2,000 head of the nation’s highest quality cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats were exhibited at the American Royal Complex.
