National Hereford Show Ends As American Royal Winds Down

As the final weekend of the 2015 American Royal drew to a close, Hereford breeders from across the country placed their cattle on display. Saturday night, junior exhibitors competed in the Junior Hereford Heifer Show. Judge Travis Pembrook of Fairview, Oklahoma, had a tough time sorting through the females. He selected Lauren May’s heifer as the Grand Champion Hereford Heifer while Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Heifer went to Chesney and Kenidey Effling of Highmore, South Dakota. May, a native of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, went on to be awarded Supreme Grand Champion Junior Heifer at the 2015 American Royal.

On Saturday morning, the 2015 National Hereford Show kicked off. Judged by Dan Shike of Urbana, Illinois, Grand Champion Hereford Heifer was awarded to Kagney and Korbin Collins of Flanagan, Illinois. Prior to the selection of the Grand Champion Bull, Taylor Matheny of Mays Lick, Kentucky, was crowned as the National Hereford Queen to serve throughout 2016.

As activity in the West Ring drew to a close, Grand Champion Hereford Bull was claimed by Turkey Feather Ranch of Ada, Oklahoma, MG3 Cattle Company of O’Keene, Oklahoma, Hoffman Herefords of Thedford, Nebraska, and P&R Herefords of Leedey, Oklahoma. Grand Champion Hereford Bull and Reserve Grand Champion went to Barber Ranch, Rylee Barber and Bryden Barber, of Channing, Texas, and Hirschfeld Group of Galesburg, Illinois.
