Rodeo 101

The rodeo is an integral part of the American Royal and for the past 67 years, Kansas City has enjoyed this exciting sport.  Some of the best cowboys, cowgirls, and trick riders from around the country come to the American Royal to compete in variety of action-packed events such as bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.  Of course it wouldn't be the rodeo without the fun of mutton busting, clown acts, and top entertainment as well.  All of this and more will be waiting for attendees at this year's rodeo!

Who COMPETES?

The American Royal Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). Members of these associations can compete in the rodeo by entering.

What's THE PROCESS?

The PRCA and WPRA rodeo seasons begin on October 1 and end September 30 annually. Cowboys and cowgirls are trying to make it to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) held in Las Vegas based off of the money they have earned during the season. This makes the American Royal Pro Rodeo one of the last rodeos and chances of the season.

What's THE PRIZE?

$40,000 is up for grabs at this one up, two day rodeo! $5,000 will be awarded in each event.
