New to the 2018 American Royal show schedule were the Red Angus junior and open shows. The shows took place in Hale Arena on Saturday. Competitors came to Kansas City from six different states and exhibited more than 60 head of cattle.

Harold Bertz, commercial marketing coordinator for the Red Angus Association of America, says adding the show was a good growth opportunity for the association.

“We have had pretty astounding growth the last few years,” Bertz says. “Having a show at the American Royal was a natural extension to highlight the tremendous history of Red Angus cattle.”

The judges of the inaugural Red Angus Show were Kevin Jensen (junior show) and Wes Hudson (open show). Champion and Reserve Champion titles were given in female, percentage female and bull divisions.
