The project was paused in the Spring of 2020 due to COVID-19. We are currently back at work and plan to break ground on the core American Royal complex in late 2022.

Currently the facility will be able to hold over 3,000 cattle stalls and 1,500 equine stalls.

The complex is expected to cost $220 million and will include:

  • 800,000+ square feet of indoor, programmable space
  • 270′ x 145′ arena with up to 8,000 seats depending on event layout
  • 2 auxillary arenas and a warm-up space creating flexible event capability
  • Integrated walkways showcasing events and separating pedestrians from animals
  • A fully integrated educational experience

A combination of funds from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County (via transient guest tax), the State of Kansas (via STAR Bonds) and private investment will pay for the new American Royal complex.

Currently all revenue generated by the American Royal stays in Missouri. Further, the land proposed for the new complex is park land that doesn’t generate tax revenue. Utilizing STAR Bonds to finance part of the project will generate new tax revenue for Kansas that will be used to pay off the bonds over a period of time and will then be revenue for the state general fund.

We expect to break ground on the core American Royal complex in late 2022.

The entire site is made up of approximately 550 acres of real property generally located at the southwest and
northeast corners of the intersection of North 110th Street and Parallel Parkway in Wyandotte County,
Kansas. The American Royal complex is approximately 110 acres within the site.
