August 31, 2016

CONNECTING WITH CHILDREN IN KANSAS CITY

calf daysDuring June 7-9, the American Royal’s CALF Days (Children’s Agriculture Learning Fest) gave kids ages 6-11 a chance to spend time at the Royal for a fun discovery program that taught them all things agriculture. Over the three day program, students were given the opportunity to interact with live animals, participate in hands-on activities and crafts, learn about agriculture through stories and demonstrations, and enjoy delicious snacks and treats.

Tuesday, June 7 – “Dairy Day” – Day one of CALF Days was a tremendous success! Over 200 kids enjoyed celebrating National Dairy Month by meeting baby cows, learning how to make butter and milk cows, making superhero cow costumes at the craft station, and eating delicious root beer floats.

Wednesday, June 8 – “Horse Show” – Over 150 kids joined us on Day 2 to learn something new about horses. During this very busy day children from all around Kansas City had the opportunity to get up close with beautiful horses, ask questions of the Kansas City Mounted Patrol, race against one another in stick horse races, and watch riders in the ring at Hale Arena.

Thursday, June 9 – “Farmland USA” – Capping off our exciting three day event was a day full of agricultural discovery filled with demonstrations, crafts, interactive animal exhibits, and fun, ‘down on the farm’ stories! Over 220 kids had the opportunity to get up close with chickens, goats, cows, and sheet while discovering where their food comes from.

As a integral part of the American Royal’s educational programming, the Children’s Agricultural Learning Fest serves the American Royal’s mission of impacting the future of agriculture through competitive learning, scholarships, education, and agriculture events.
