A record 5,626 area elementary students poured into the American Royal Complex for an exciting week of School Tours this year.  Education is at the center of all events at the American Royal and the School Tours Program is really where the organization’s mission of impacting the future of agriculture is put into action. The largest educational program of the year, the American Royal School Tours was held September 20-23 and welcomed students, parents, and teachers from across the Kansas City region.  Each had the opportunity to experience hands-on learning through demonstrations and interactions with animals.  At the conclusion of the morning programming, students got to experience a rodeo, many for the first time, cheering on competitors in the Invitational Youth Rodeo. For the fourth consecutive year, attendance has increased, this year at a rate of 13%.

With assistance from the Kansas City, KS business and civic community and matching grant funds from Bryan and Nancy Beaver, funds were raised to provide financial assistance for transportation needs of participating schools. A special thanks to the 200 volunteers from UMB, the BOTAR Organization, and Chairman’s Club who donated time and talent to serve  as group leaders and exhibit leaders for the event.

 

 

The Invitational Youth Rodeo brings the best cowboys and cowgirls to Kansas City.  These students are selected from across the Midwest and invited to compete based on their achievements in the classroom, leaderships, community service and rodeo expertise.  This year over 330 students competed in the Rodeo and $19,577 was paid in awards.  During November, the American Royal Board of Directors recognized Logan Wiseman and Mackenzie Buechter for their achievements during the 2016 Invitational Youth Rodeo, awarding each the Grant Fulton All Around “Hand” Award.  This honor is given to youth competitors who exemplify all aspects of Rodeo, Athleticism, Horsemanship, and Sportsmanship.
